Objectives
The overall objective of this course is to provide the main theoretical fundamentals on developmental and stem cell biology .
Program
1. Stem cells: Fundamentals and concepts. 2. Stem cell biology: “from the embryo to the dish”. Molecular mechanisms that regulate stemness. Reprogramming and trans-differentiation. 3. Stem cell niches and microenvironmental regulation. Control of stem cell differentiation in vivo and ex vivo. Strategies for monitoring stemness and differentiation state. 4. Animal models of regeneration. 5. Cell biology of tissue formation.
Evaluation Methodology
50% - Presentation of a “Journal Club” seminar discussing a scientific article.
50% - Essay on a stem cell biology topic.
